Talbot Unit 7
Talbot County

Reliable Energy to Meet Growing Demand

To help meet rising electricity demand, we’re building two new generation projects in Georgia, including a new natural gas-fired combustion turbine unit in Talbot County.

This new 240-megawatt unit, powered by advanced Siemens Energy technology, will become the seventh unit at our existing Talbot Energy Facility. Upon completion, it will make Talbot the most efficient natural gas peaking plant in our fleet, generating reliable energy during times of high electricity demand. With dual-fuel capability, the unit will further strengthen our year-round resiliency and operational flexibility.

POWERING GEORGIA'S FUTURE

The Talbot Unit 7 project represents a $360 million capital investment in Talbot County. Following a successful permitting process, we plan to begin work onsite in 2026, with commercial operation expected in 2029.

Our History in Talbot County

Oglethorpe Power is the largest taxpayer in Talbot County and has a longstanding partnership with the community, rooted in decades of energy generation and community support.

Existing Operations

  • For more than two decades, we’ve proudly owned and operated the Talbot Energy Facility, a six-unit natural gas-fired combustion turbine plant. Our new unit will be the seventh at the site.
  • We’re currently adding dual-fuel enhancements to four of the existing units at the Talbot Energy Facility, representing a separate $100 million capital investment.

The new combustion turbine unit at Talbot will add to Oglethorpe Power’s diverse energy portfolio, helping to meet growing energy demands.
