EMISSION-FREE NUCLEAR ENERGY
Plant Vogtle
Units 3 and 4
Nuclear energy is increasingly important to the clean energy transition, and on behalf of the Georgia electric cooperatives we serve, Oglethorpe Power is a co-owner of one of the largest clean energy projects in the nation, Plant Vogtle Units 3 and 4.
These new nuclear units represent the first advanced commercial nuclear project in the United States in more than three decades. Unit 3 reached commercial operation in July 2023, marking a historic achievement for the energy industry, the state of Georgia, and the entire nation.
Emission-free Power
Once both new units are online, Plant Vogtle will produce more emission-free, clean energy than any other U.S. facility and will provide reliable baseload power for Georgians for the next 60 to 80 years. When Unit 4 reaches commercial operation, emission-free nuclear energy will account for nearly 50% of the energy generated by Oglethorpe Power for the electric cooperatives we serve.

Clean nuclear energy is powered by tiny uranium fuel pellets.

uranium fuel pellets can power a typical household’s electricity needs for a year.
18.1 million
uranium fuel pellets power each nuclear reactor in Units 3 and 4.
