Oglethorpe Power Delivers $3.6 Million Tax Payment to Monroe County
Forsyth, GA (April 25, 2024) – Today, Oglethorpe Power, Central Georgia EMC, Flint Energies and Southern Rivers Energy presented Oglethorpe Power’s 2023 ad valorem tax payment of more than $3.6 million to the Monroe County Tax Commissioner’s office, which will benefit the county’s school systems and local government. The payment is for Oglethorpe Power’s 60 percent ownership in Units 1 and 2 of the Robert W. Scherer coal-fired plant and other properties in Monroe County.
Oglethorpe Power is a wholesale electric power cooperative that is owned by and serves 38 consumer-owned, not-for-profit distribution cooperatives across Georgia, including Central Georgia EMC, Flint Energies and Southern Rivers Energy, which provide electric service in Monroe County and other area counties.
