Oglethorpe Power Delivers $860,000 Tax Payment to Effingham County

Springfield, GA (April 11, 2024) – Today, Oglethorpe Power, Planters EMC and Excelsior EMC presented Oglethorpe Power’s 2023 ad valorem tax payment of more than $860,000 to the Effingham County Tax Commissioner’s office, which will benefit the county’s school systems and local government. The payment is for Oglethorpe Power’s ownership of the Bobby C. Smith Jr. Energy Facility, a 500-megawatt natural gas-fired generation asset located in Effingham County.

Oglethorpe Power is a wholesale electric power cooperative that is owned by and serves 38 consumer-owned, not-for-profit distribution cooperatives across Georgia, including Planters EMC and Excelsior EMC, which provide electric service in Effingham County and surrounding counties.
