Oglethorpe Power Submits $2.3 Million Tax Payment to Murray County

(TUCKER, GA., March 29, 2021) – Oglethorpe Power Corp. recently made its 2020 ad valorem tax payment of $2,343,449.18 to the Murray County Tax Commissioner’s office. The payment is for Oglethorpe Power’s ownership of the Thomas A. Smith electric generating facility in Murray County.
Oglethorpe Power purchased the two-unit, combined-cycle power plant in 2011. The facility is powered by clean-burning natural gas and is capable of producing more than 1,250 megawatts of electric power. Oglethorpe Power is a wholesale electric power cooperative owned by and serving 38 electric membership corporations in Georgia.
For 2020, Oglethorpe Power estimates it will pay more than $47 million in ad valorem taxes for power generation facilities that it owns or co-owns on behalf of its Member EMCs.
