Area Co-ops and Oglethorpe Power Present Large Heard County Tax Payment

(TUCKER, GA., March 9, 2020) – Officials from Carroll EMC, Coweta-Fayette EMC, Diverse Power, and Oglethorpe Power recently presented a check for $810,575.10 to the Heard County Tax Commissioner’s Office, bringing Oglethorpe’s total 2019 ad valorem tax payment in Heard County to $2,666,157.51.
The payment is for Oglethorpe Power’s 30 percent ownership in the Hal B. Wansley coal-fired plant and 100 percent ownership in the Hawk Road and Chattahoochee natural gas-powered energy facilities, all in Heard County.
Oglethorpe Power is a wholesale electric power cooperative owned by and serving 38 electric membership corporations in Georgia, including Carroll EMC, Coweta-Fayette EMC, and Diverse Power, which provide electric service in Heard County and other area counties.
Around the state, Oglethorpe Power will pay more than $43 million in 2019 ad valorem taxes for power-generating facilities that it owns or co-owns on behalf of its Member EMCs.
