Walton EMC and Oglethorpe Power Present Large Walton County Tax Payment

(TUCKER, GA, Feb. 18, 2020)  – Officials from Walton EMC and Oglethorpe Power Corp. recently presented Oglethorpe Power’s 2019 ad valorem tax payment of $344,634.56 to the Walton County Tax Commissioner’s office.

The payment is for Oglethorpe Power’s ownership of the Doyle Energy Facility near Monroe.  The natural gas-powered plant includes five generating units capable of producing about 281 megawatts of electric power.

Oglethorpe Power is a wholesale electric power cooperative owned by and serving 38 electric membership corporations in Georgia, including Walton EMC, which provides electric service in Walton County and other area counties.

Around the state, Oglethorpe Power will pay more than $43 million in 2019 ad valorem taxes for power-generating facilities that it owns or co-owns on behalf of its Member EMCs.
