Area Co-Ops and Oglethorpe Power Deliver Large Tax Payment to Talbot County

TALBOTTON, GA (2/5/2018) – Upson EMC, Flint Energies, and Oglethorpe Power Corp. recently presented a check for $178,813.17 to Talbot County’s Tax Commissioner Office, bringing Oglethorpe’s total 2017 ad valorem tax payment in Talbot County to $668,876.07 for the organization’s 100 percent ownership in Talbot Energy Facility, a gas-fired combustion turbine power plant.
Oglethorpe Power is a wholesale electric power cooperative owned by and serving 38 electric membership corporations (EMCs) in Georgia, including Upson EMC and Flint Energies which provide service in Talbot County.
Around the state, Oglethorpe Power expects to pay more than $35 million in 2017 ad valorem taxes for power-generating facilities that it owns or co-owns on behalf of its Member EMCs.
Oglethorpe Power is one of the nation’s largest power supply cooperatives with more than $11 billion in assets, serving 38 Electric Membership Corporations which, collectively, provide electricity to approximately 4.1 million Georgia residents.
